duke’s ocean fest

Duke Kahanamoku is a legend in Hawaii.

Known for spreading surfing as a sport throughout the Pacific, Duke is immortalized in downtown Waikiki by a larger than life statue often draped in lei’s.

Each year Waikiki beach hosts the Duke Foundation’s Ocean Fest which according to the foundation’s website:

was established as a benefit for the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation. The mission of the foundation is to financially support the development of individuals and organizations who perpetuate the spirit and legacy of Duke Kahanamoku.

Ocean Fest features a weeks worth of daily surfing contests and other watersports.

After jogging by the festivities this morning on my daily run, I decided to revisit the fest later in the day to snap a few photos.
